Accessibility

Our website strives to uphold the principles and best practices of the WCAG 2.0 A guidelines.

While we aim to comply with these guidelines, we recognise that web technology has moved on since their creation, and a number of them are less applicable now than at their time of publication.

Our central objective is users finding our site accessible and usable in practice. Using feedback from our residents, website visitors alongside end user testing, we actively work to continually improve the accessibility and usability of our websites.

Our site’s code

The site has been built to comply with standards HTML5 and CSS.  At every stage the code has been checked for accessibility using a range of automated and (more significantly) manual checks.  In older browsers (Netscape and Internet Explorer 4 and earlier) it will appear as an unstyled document. All information and functionality will still be accessible.

Exceptions to Web Standards and Technologies (WCAG 2.0 (A) Conformance)

When third party applications have been embedded into this website the WCAG 2.0 (A) compliance cannot be guaranteed. Current third party applications used include Google Translate, Google Maps, YouTube and other functional elements such as the slide shows.

Feedback from visitors to this website has informed us that:

  • Most people prefer to open an external link in a new window. Therefore, the wishes of our users have taken preference over conformance with some of the links on this website.
  • Some people have problems with pop-up windows. If you have problems opening pop-ups, or your browser is set to disable these windows, you can access the details via the sitemap.
  • Some people are not aware that the logo on a website is a link to the home page. To help visitors navigate this website as easily as possible, a 'home page' link has been added in the top-level navigation bar.

Browsers

Our websites can be viewed on any browser or device but, for the best possible experience we recommend the latest version of the following browsers:

  • Internet Explorer
  • Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Firefox
